Fusion CI Studios Congratulates Next Limit Technologies on its Academy Award® for Technical Achievement!
We don’t even know who will be nominated for best visual effects at the Academy Awards® this year, but we do know who has already won for their work supporting the visual effects industry!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the winners of the Scientific and Technical Academy Awards, to be presented at The Beverly Wilshire on Saturday, February 9, 2008.
And the Award goes to… Next Limit Technologies! for the creation of the RealFlow software application. “Award winners must demonstrate a proven record of contributing significant value to the process of making motion pictures, “ says the Academy, “RealFlow was the first widely adopted, commercially available, easy-to-use system for the simulation of realistic liquids in motion picture visual effects.”
Joining the Next Limit team at the Academy Award® ceremony is Mark Stasiuk and Lauren Millar, co-founders of Fusion CI Studios – particle and fluid fx specialists. Stasiuk has been a devoted user of Realflow since 2002 and has an international reputation as a RealFlow expert. He has beta-tested various versions of Realflow, analyzing bugs and advising Next Limit’s engineers of the industry’s production needs when it comes to a fluid solver. As a result, Next Limit and Fusion CI Studios have built a unique, mutually supportive relationship as software developer and visual effects studio.
Stasiuk’s python scripting contributed to the upgrades in Realflow from version 3 to 4 and he wrote the Scripting Guide in the User Manual. Fusion CI Studios has facilitated the successful use of Realflow in films like National Treasure: Book of Secrets, The Guardian, Primeval and Poseidon. And Next Limit has provided exceptional production support to Fusion.
“We are ecstatic and honored to have been awarded a Technical Achievement Award for our hard work creating and improving RealFlow,” says Victor Gonzalez, Next Limit CEO. “Mark and Lauren’s dedication and expertise using Realflow in their studio have helped us to establish all-important relations in the international motion picture industry, and thus to pocket this award that is really our ultimate reward. Thanks guys.”
“We’re thrilled that Next Limit has received this well-deserved recognition,” says Stasiuk who presented Realflow’s capabilities to the Technical Achievement Committee with Angel Tena and Victor Gonzalez. “They’ve developed the absolute best commercially available fluid solution on the market, and made it sophisticated and flexible enough to fit tidily into film pipelines. Next Limit delivered a tool to many studios across the globe for inserting photo-real CG fluid into any project without bleeding and sweating over internal code development. It’s an incredibly valuable contribution to the vfx community.”
